Embracing Kalmfulness: Simple Ways to Find Peace in a Fast-Paced World
At Kalms, we understand how overwhelming life can feel sometimes. Our research reveals that two in five UK adults (42%) struggle to find calm amidst the daily chaos, while over a third (37%) are unsure how to incorporate calming moments into their routines.[i]
With more than half of UK adults (59%) believing that prioritising moments of calm would enhance their mental and physical well-being, and 43% expressing a need for additional tools to support emotional balance, it’s evident that taking time to slow down and reset is more important than ever.i Even small, mindful pauses - whether by spending time in nature, viewing soothing imagery or connecting with loved ones - can have a profound impact on overall well-being.
That’s why we champion the power of kalmfulness, the simple yet transformative practice of intentionally pausing throughout your day to reconnect with yourself and nurture your mental well-being. Here are a few ways you can embrace more moments of kalmfulness:
Create a Relaxing Space: Designate a calming corner in your home and fill it with items that bring you comfort, like soft cushions, warm lighting or a favourite book. This can be your personal sanctuary for unwinding. If home doesn’t feel peaceful, explore relaxing spots like a quiet café, library or park - anywhere you can find serenity.
Spend Time Outdoors: Our study revealed 65% of UK adults find it easier to unwind in nature.i Take a stroll in the park, relax in your garden or enjoy a quiet bench. A study has shown that nature can reduce cortisol, the stress hormone. This can help you feel more at ease.[ii] Immersing yourself in the sights and sounds of the outdoors is a powerful way to lift your spirit.
Look at Calming Imagery: If green spaces aren’t nearby, viewing peaceful nature scenes can provide a similar effect. The Moments of Kalmfulness virtual gallery features striking photographs of natural settings, serene landscapes and peaceful moments, taken by established and emerging photographers with a passion for promoting mental health. Even a few minutes spent with the soothing visuals can add a touch of calm to your day.[iii]
Connect with Friends and Community: Our study shows that over half of UK adults (52%) feel that connecting with others brings a sense of calm and support.i Meeting for coffee, going for a walk or simply chatting with loved ones can lift your spirits. Regular connection - whether with friends, family or an online community - helps build a supportive network, enhancing well-being and fostering a sense of belonging.
Reflect and Capture: Whilst it’s important to live fully in the present moment, take a moment each day to reflect on what you’re grateful for, using journaling or photography to capture these experiences. Writing down your thoughts fosters a mindset of appreciation, whilst photographing extra special moments can help to preserve the memory. Together, these practices help you savour the present and create a personal archive of gratitude - words and images you can revisit whenever you need a reminder of life’s beauty and blessings.
Try a Herbal Remedy: Our study revealed 43% of UK adults believe they would benefit from additional tools to support their emotional well-being.i Herbal remedies like valerian root can be used to reduce stress and aid sleep[iv], while pharmaceutical-grade lavender oil capsules can be used to relieve anxiety.[v] Rhodiola rosea can be used to relieve symptoms of stress such as fatigue and exhaustion[vi]. Always consult your doctor or pharmacist first and look for a traditional herbal registration (THR) for quality assurance. How Kalms Can Help
