Midlife can often feel like an overwhelming phase of life, spanning between the ages of 40 and 60. From caring for ageing parents to supporting children and managing career pressures, it’s easy to feel pulled in every direction.

According to a recent Kalms survey, over one-third (39%) of Generation X (born between 1965 and 1980) had experienced some level of mental fatigue in the past 24 months1, highlighting a clear need for support.

The top four causes for this increase in exhaustion are:

  1. Mental load: Just over one-third (34%) of Generation X struggle to carry the mental load of all their responsibilities and obligations.1

  2. Getting older: 48% of Gen-Xers worry about the impact of ageing on their own health and well-being.1

  3. Last on the list: Over half (53%) in this age category admit to paying too much attention to the needs of others and often neglect their own.1

  4. Financial pressures: Over half (54%) of Gen X worry about financial uncertainty.1

Practical Tips to Reset & Recharge

Midlife is often seen as a time of reflection and renewal, but for many, it can also be a time of exhaustion. The key is acknowledging these pressures and finding ways to navigate them. By addressing the root causes of mental fatigue and seeking the right support, you can rediscover your energy and live this phase to its fullest.

Try these simple strategies to help you get back to feeling your best:

  • Prioritise self-care: Making time for yourself can be as simple as taking a brisk walk outside or practicing mindfulness. With 71% of respondents saying that they don’t exercise enough and almost half (48%) admitting they don’t drink enough water1, there’s certainly an opportunity to embrace simple lifestyle changes to help transform how you feel.

  • Set boundaries: It’s easy to feel guilty about saying no, especially when caring for loved ones. But setting healthy boundaries is essential to prevent exhaustion.

  • Seek support: Talk to friends, family, or professionals about what you’re going through. Sometimes just sharing the burden of your mental load can make you feel lighter.

  • Try Kalms Rhodiola: 58% of survey respondents would prefer to manage symptoms of fatigue and stress with lifestyle changes and alternative treatments such as herbal remedies.1 Kalms Rhodiola Tablets are a traditional herbal medicinal product used for the temporary relief of symptoms associated with stress, such as fatigue, exhaustion and mild anxiety, making it a great option for short-term relief.
